Why we built dental practice management for the UK

UK dental software is split between expensive enterprise platforms and generic HR tools that weren't built for dentistry. There's a gap in the middle, and it's where most practices live.

Why UK dental needs modern software, on a deep blue background, with an Industry category badge.

Walk into ten UK dental practices and ask what software runs the business side of things. You’ll get back a depressingly consistent answer: spreadsheets, WhatsApp, email, paper, and — if they’re unlucky — an enterprise system that costs more than their nurse and is hated by everyone who has to log into it.

That’s the gap D-Hub fills.

The two ends of the market

At one end, there are enterprise platforms — SOE Software, Carestream, the big practice management suites. They’re comprehensive and they’ve been around forever. They’re also slow to change, expensive, and built for a generation of dentistry that worked differently. Practices put up with them because the alternative looks worse.

At the other end, there are generic HR tools — BambooHR, Personio, the hundred SaaS products that promise to modernise your people function. They’re smooth and modern and beautifully designed. They also have no idea what a GDC number is, no concept of CQC, no notion of a lab case, and no understanding that a “practice” is a thing.

Most UK dental practices don’t fit either end. They’re too small for the enterprise world and too specific for the generic tools.

What “built for the UK” actually means

A lot of dental software is American software with a UK skin. That shows up in small ways and big ones.

  • It assumes US health insurance flows where there’s NHS UDA tracking.
  • It calls leave “PTO” in the interface.
  • It doesn’t understand CQC, or DBS, or the GDC register.
  • It hosts your patient and staff data in another country.

D-Hub is built UK-first. UK GDPR, UK hosting, UK terminology, UK support hours. Not because we’re flag-waving, but because the alternative is software that doesn’t quite fit your day.

What we won’t do

We could build a chair-side clinical system. We’re not going to — that’s a separate problem with separate experts solving it. We integrate with Dentally for that side of things, and we focus hard on the operational layer that runs the practice as a business.

We could try to be everything to everyone. We’re not going to do that either. We’d rather be excellent at the operational side of dentistry than mediocre at all of it.

What this looks like in practice

A small practice, four chairs, twelve staff. Their day-to-day operation used to live across five systems and three apps. After moving to D-Hub last year, it’s on one. Their compliance matrix is up to date for the first time in three years. Their lab cases have a paper trail. Their payslips arrive in the right inboxes without an email going out. Their leave calendar is something everyone can read.

That’s the win. Not magic, just the right shape of software for the job.

If your practice fits this description and you’d like to see what it looks like, book a demo. It’s 30 minutes, it’s tailored to you, and there’s no follow-up pressure.
